Current Deering Estate Artists in Residence, Dr. Keshia Abraham and Michelle Grant-Murray, present a performative workshop, Of Mastery, Manifesto and Movement, as part of the closing celebration of John William Bailly’s In-Situ at the Great Hall of the Stone House. Of Mastery, Manifesto and Movement is an exploration of myth making and the magic of movement through textual embodiment. In this two-hour experience, participants will unearth the senses to create vibrant works of art.

Participants are invited to traverse the exhibit space with the virtuosity of words transcribed into layers of embodied movement and text by Toni Morrison, Ntozake Shange, and Toni Cade Bambara. The layered textures of language, corporeal body, and artistic expression of John William Bailly’s In-Situ celebrate a generative practice of authenticity. Of Mastery, Manifesto and Movement is an integrative process that channels memory, innovation, and gratitude.

All participants are invited to meditate, move, listen, feel, reflect, write – create while using the exhibit space and each other to build a language, community, some beautiful power, and some play together. The structure of the program includes introductions and recognitions, exploratory exercises, discovering movement improvisational tools, working on manifestos, as well as reflections and gratitude exercises.

ITEMS TO BRING:
