16701 SW 72ND AVE
MIAMI, FL 33157
The Deering Estate presents an artist talk with John William Bailly as a companion event to John William Bailly – In Situ exhibit.
John William Bailly has spent the last four years embedded in the Deering Estate as the inaugural McCormick Art Fellow. During his tenure, Bailly has transformed his Power House studio into a salon that welcomes artists, students, guests and creatives alike to enter into his hub of creative energy. The culminating exhibition of his residency In Situ, brings the vitality of Bailly’s studio practice into the Deering Estate’s Great Hall gallery. John William Bailly: In Situ includes a series of paintings and drawings created by Bailly at the Deering Estate, with references to the Burial Mound and The Cutler Fossil Site. On display daily, September 9- November 13, 2022.
A short biographical documentary by Jorge Gonzalez Graupera commissioned by the Deering Estate will accompany the exhibition. This film highlights the process-based facet of Bailly’s practice at the Deering Estate, that include early morning hikes to draw in the nature preserve, as well as canoeing out to the barrier islands surrounding the Estate on Biscayne Bay. The Deering Estate maintains the legacy of Charles Deering of supporting artists and creative innovation through its vigorous residency and exhibition program. The Deering Estate’s Exhibition Program has always been a platform for artists to explore the site and illustrate different facets of the history of the site and its surroundings.
