“A Farmer’s Life for Me ” by Gina Martins @iamnotgina of @fiuinstagram at @Châteauversailles.
Once upon a time, a queen of France built a little village in the gardens of Versailles, and it was known as “Hameau de la Reine.” It was built with the intent to be a peaceful spot to escape the pressures of life in the French court. It had farmers taking care of animals and agriculture, a fisherman’s cottage, and a guard house. It was costly to build, for it had a rustic appeal to mimic the country side of Normandy, yet it was extravagant on the inside. Meanwhile, all the peasants loathed her because she used their tax money to fund it. They rebelled against the monarchy and stormed the palace, demanding justice. A farmer’s life was no more, for poor Queen Marie Antoinette of France.
