MIAMI ART WEEK
Miami Art Week is the largest contemporary art fair in the world. Art Basel Miami Beach at the Miami Beach Convention Center is the main fair, but satellite fairs pop-up throughout Miami-Dade County. Miami Art Week offers FIU students a unique opportunity to engage the contemporary art community. This project offers students a structured exploration of the artistic, financial, and social dynamics of the contemporary art market.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Miami Art as Text is an interdisciplinary investigation of Art Basel Miami Beach and the satellite fairs. While providing certain required guidelines, the project is structured in an open manner that enables student participants to emphasize their respective disciplinary interests. It is the students’ mission to investigate, discover and document Miami Art Week and its immediate surroundings. Each student will create an image and text reflection on an event or exhibition during Art Week Miami. All reflections will posted on the public Miami as Text Instagram account. Students will be given a tour of the Art Miami fair in Wynwood. Following the tour, students will revisit the fair individually. Each student will select one aspect of Art Miami or Miami Art Week to reflect upon. The subject selected can be an artwork, a person (employee or visitor), an architectural space, or any other relevant aspect.
