Time
Miles
Blood
Place
History
Identity
How can culture connect across time?
Is separation counted in more ways than miles?
Is family more than blood?
Is geography more than place?
Is the past more than history?
How do each of us create an identity?
A notion of separation,
By miles, time, and language.
Our sense of curiosity, for knowledge
Has never brought us closer,
To discovering the relationship,
Of the footsteps under our feet,
As more than just our own.
The humans that lived on this ground,
Stepped on soil that has now been buried,
Never too distant from us, but
Separated by miles and miles of time.
If the Tequesta could live in harmony,
And also cultivate the land around them,
What has changed our perspective to think,
Us against them, rather than
Us as them.
